Third time lucky for today’s lovely real couple, Clare and Jack, who finally tied the knot in December with a stunning church ceremony and reception at the historic Holford Estate surrounded by their very nearest and dearest.

Just squeezing a wedding into 2020 by a whisker, Clare and her now-husband Jack decided to marry in between lockdowns, and they’ve certainly managed a lovely day! From the restored and amazing venue to the impressive floral arrangements and four tier cake, this certainly doesn’t seem like anything but the perfect day. As Clare herself says, “Don’t be afraid to opt for a small wedding… all of our special guests said it was the best wedding they have ever been to.”

We’re also totally swooning over the contemporary cool of the chic Jessica Bennett dress and Clare looks beautiful, serene and elegant in it, especially paired with a classic navy for the suits, accented by brighter colours in the flowers decorating the venue.

Over to you for all the gorgeous details, Claire!

Clare says: We had been visiting the restaurants that were featured on The Trip (a TV show with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydan) and our last restaurant was the Yorke Arms, near Harrogate. Jack took me there for my 29th birthday and the next day we went for a walk around Brimham rocks. We climbed up one of the rock formations and when we sat down to take in the views, he very nervously asked me to marry him. Obviously I said yes!

Setting

Initially we chose Friday 28th August to make it one long party bank holiday weekend. There were supposed to be lots of friends and family coming over from other countries. Sadly, Manchester was kept in a tighter lockdown with local restrictions and the original wedding venue was not open so the date was moved to 21st November, by which time, once again, the country was in a national lockdown with no weddings allowed. We delayed it one more month to Saturday 19th December to ensure we got married in 2020 and to ensure our grandparents were able to be present.

We had our wedding ceremony at St John’s RC Church, Chorlton. The priest is a family friend and we wanted our families to enjoy the day as much as we would.

In the end, our wedding reception was held at The Holford Estate near Plumbly. Our amazing photographer, Kate McCarthy, had recommended it to us as she knew we were so keen to get married. As soon as we went to visit and spoke to Frances and Hannah, we felt reassured they would make the day as beautiful, special and stress free as possible.

Theme

I didn’t want things overly fussy or to go with a trend that would date. I felt simplicity and elegance was key.

Colourwise, the ushers, groom and bridesmaid were all in navy. Jack and I love the colour and think it’s always elegant and timeless. For the flowers, to make things a little brighter we had whites, pinks, purples and LOTS of foliage to make everything smell beautiful.

Exciting things are afoot today as Jayne and Akeem finally tie the knot, elopement style, following a series of frustrating Covid-related postponements. We head down to Newcastle’s Ouseburn district to see how it all went on the day!

We’ve got some fantastic, moody and atmospheric shots from today’s real wedding, taken by the talented Chris and Shazia of Chocolate Chip Photography. It’s a joy to see our lovely couple really letting loose for the photos after the intimate ceremony, throwing their inhibitions to the wind and celebrating the realsiation that they’re finally married to one another after such an intense year! What a time to be alive!

Then we follow them back home for a takeaway, Champagne, dancing and music on their own record player. What could be more cosy and romantic? We’re head over heels for the table settings, and the fact that it’s in their own dining room just makes it all the more special. Absolute proof that small and intimate doesn’t have to mean any of the details should be any less amazing.

Jayne says: Akeem proposed in July 2019, on the day that we got the keys to our first home! We went to our empty new house, really excited to look around. After a couple of minutes inside, Akeem said told me he’d left his phone in the car outside and would be right back. When he came back he was carrying a rather large ring box. He got down on one knee and proposed to me in our new living room. I was so surprised, overwhelmed and, of course, really happy. It felt like the start of our new adventure.

Setting

We got married on 7th May 2021. It wasn’t the date we’d originally chosen but we landed with it after changing our plans several times throughout lockdown. We chose the date totally randomly, just going with the availability of the registrar, and it wasn’t until a few weeks later that we realised it was exactly 8 years to the day that we met. It was clearly meant to be!

We had our ceremony in the Shipyard Room at the Hotel Du Vin in Ouseburn. We love the hotel’s moody industrial style and it’s such a beautiful building nestled in the heart of one of our favourite areas. The hotel staff were incredible with helping us to plan our intimate ceremony and the room was perfect, with big windows, exposed brick and a quirky mural.

I’d give our ceremony venue 10 out of 10. The staff were so helpful and accommodating, the room was stunning and everything went perfectly to plan. I would definitely recommend it to other couples looking for that industrial relaxed feel.

Our reception venue was the most exclusive venue we could find… our dining room! At the time of our wedding, receptions were outdoors only and because we eloped, we thought what could be more special than turning our home into our reception venue. After all it’s where we got engaged. We loved the chance to get creative and transform it into something beautiful.

Our original plan was to have a big celebration with our family and friends at Wylam Brewery but it was during full lockdown when weddings couldn’t go ahead at all. We knew straight away that what was most important to us was to get married and so we decided to plan a whole new elopement wedding for as soon as possible after restrictions lifted. Looking back, we wouldn’t have had it any other way. It was perfect.

Theme

We didn’t set out with a specific theme but knew we wanted things to be more relaxed and less traditional. I’d probably describe the overall feel as ‘moody bohemian’. We just chose exactly what we loved and hoped that it would all tie in together, which thankfully it did!

We didn’t stick with traditional spring wedding colours and chose to go dark with our colour scheme instead. It’s almost like we broke the rules and planned an autumnal wedding in May! We’re both a big fan of bold colour choices so opted for burnt orange, burgundy, terracotta and gold. This was incorporated into our flowers and table décor.

We just love the romance and seeming inevitability of the way today’s small but perfect featured wedding came together as everything else in the UK was falling apart. Let’s head to the Lakes to hear all about Kat and David’s swoon-worthy elopement…

When the dream venue is all set and then the government announces that it’s scuppering all of your best laid plans, it might seem like all is lost. But when our bride Kat spoke to The Gilpin about cancelling their arranged mini moon, the hotel and staff came to the rescue with their new elopement package – featuring our UNVEILED Network Member Anna Sorbie on the glam squad – and everything started to fall back into place.

An intimate ceremony just for two, a typically Lake District torrential rain shower during the ceremony and a cosy celebration in the pub afterwards was just what our couple needed, and the big party that follows is going to be monumental!

We’ve heard all about the struggles Kat experienced when she was hunting for her dream dress and how, in the end, she went a little off piste, and how handing all responsibility over to their amazing venue was the best thing they could’ve done.

Let’s hear all about the day that Kat and David merged their surnames to become the new Mr and Mrs Thanes!

Proposal

Kat says: Our engagement story is a bit of a saga but after many failed attempts during a trip to Edinburgh, Dave panic proposed at a pub in Manchester, when we were both a bit tipsy on our way to see Fall Out Boy at the MEN in 2018. He forgot the ring was in his pocket and didn’t want security to blow his secret. It was actually pretty perfect and very us. Cheap beer in plastic cups, rain and on the way to a gig.

I didn’t really realise what was going on and the first thing out of my mouth was “Where did you get that ring?”. He had a ring that was identical to one I nearly got for myself a few years ago that was limited edition, only five in the world. Mine isn’t one of those though, he got this one custom made for me with the same designer. We told a few friends there and then swore them to secrecy until we told our families.

Setting

We got married on 3rd October 2020, I always wanted an autumn wedding and this date worked with our photographer. Everything else was booked around that, I was not prepared to lose Dom and Ruby!

Our original wedding was booked at Great John Street in Manchester. We absolutely loved this venue. It was small and personal, with loads of history but also really chic with a beautiful terrace, plus they do the best Negronis! GJS was also the first venue we spoke with that would let us do whatever we wanted, there really were no limits. We aren’t very traditional so this was important to us, nothing was too much for them and there was no cookie cutter wedding like other venues we saw. Unfortunately, thanks to the pandemic we had to cancel this wedding.

We ended up eloping to The Gilpin in the Lakes, we had viewed this as a wedding venue but it was way out of our budget, so we’d booked a couple of days for our mini-moon instead. When we spoke with them about having to cancel our wedding they mentioned their elopement package, everything from there just fell into place. The Gilpin is stunning in every way possible and the team couldn’t do enough for us. We ended up getting married in their conservatory while it threw it down outside, just the two of us with all the big doors open and it was perfect. They organised witnesses and a bottle of champagne for afterwards, all we had to sort was a registrar which was much easier than it had been trying to sort out one in Manchester. When the rules started to relax we managed to book a private room in a local pub, The Flying Fleece, for dinner with just the family. The team at The Fleece were amazing, the food was incredible and they were so welcoming considering the rules were still changing the day of. They let us have anything from the main menu as long as we pre-ordered, we can’t thank them enough.

Theme

No theme at all! Our main focus was that people had fun and were comfortable, but it also had to reflect us. I think now we would describe it as glamorous, rainy and fun, I laughed all day and I think everyone else did too looking at the photos.

We didn’t have a set colour scheme either, it was such a last minute thing that we just got what we could, especially for decorations at the pub. It all seemed to work out ok though!

There are few venues as stunningly beautiful as the elegant Lartington Hall, something our classy couple, Rachel and Daniel, certainly discovered after falling head over heels for the chapel at their first visit.

Opting for a classic and timeless style, an all white and black tie theme, this wedding is a lesson in the old adage that keeping things simple is often best. Our bride, Rachel, absolutely glows with happiness in her stunning Atelier Pronovia gown with back detailing to die for and a cathedral length veil, her hair worn down, in loose curls and with minimal, natural makeup to emphasize her own beauty. And we can’t fault her choice of embellished Christian Louboutins to complete the top-to-toe bridal look.

With the black tie look and the bridesmaid’s Oscars-worthy chic black floor length gown, Lartington’s white and gold heritage vibe pairs perfectly with the couple’s chosen palette. We’re seeing huge bunches of romantic white blooms, moody thistles and an excess of lovely, fresh, green foliage, but the enchanting venue needs little else in the way of interior styling.

This couple have certainly demonstrated the pandemic pivot, as they shift some of their suppliers away from the wedding day and onto planning for their vow renewal and a 30th birthday celebration! This is a great way of using the deposits you’ve paid to the suppliers you love, even if your official wedding day is a little smaller than originally planned.

So pop those Champagne corks as the small and perfectly formed micro wedding saves the day once again!

Rachel says: We got engaged in May 2019, at the top of High Force waterfall. Daniel took me on a walk with our dog, Harper.

Setting

We tied the knot on October 23rd 2020 because autumn is my favourite time of year. The colours are beautiful. We got married in the chapel at Lartington Hall.

The venue is amazing. We knew straight away after viewing it for the first time that we wanted to get married there. John and Shona are exceptional hosts and everything about the venue is perfect. Especially the attention to detail.

Theme

Our chosen colour scheme was a very simple black and white. I wanted a classic look that wouldn’t date.

When Catherine and David got engaged on holiday in 2019 they had absolutely no idea that a virus might threaten to disrupt their perfect day. But our couple weren’t going to let a little thing like a global pandemic get in their way of becoming husband and wife…

With a palette of dark navy and light grey, accents of metallics and monochrome in the stationery, and plenty of pretty white floral and foliage arrangements, historical venue Thicket Priory has really been dressed to impress. Catherine and David even found a way to incorporate their shared love of music through creative uses of sheet music as a variety of decorative elements. We’ve really fallen for photographer Carla’s fresh, bright imagery and our couple’s simple but beautiful styling, and we love the little touches of Covid-themed signage such as ‘Distance makes the heart grow fonder’ and ‘It was worth the wait’!

You know we’re suckers for groomsmen in a bow tie and bride Catherine looks utterly stunning in her incredibly chic Enzoani gown – it’s even got pockets! Very handy for hiding any essentials for makeup touch ups on the day! Plus, the personalised leather jacket is an amazing way to add a bit more individuality to the whole ensemble.

Despite the twists and turns of this year our happy couple have managed to pull off their dream wedding at their dream venue. And, from the looks of these snaps, the happiness and raw emotions on everyone’s faces, we can safely say it really WAS worth the wait.

Catherine says: We got engaged whilst on holiday on the Amalfi Coast in June 2019. David popped the question on a day trip to Positano, somewhere that I’d been longing to visit since watching the film Under the Tuscan Sun! It was such a perfectly magical day, the sun was shining and we had a delicious lunch at Chez Black (where the movie stars used to dine during the 30s and 40s) before taking a stroll along `Lover’s Lane` which took us around the cliff edge. David proposed whilst we were looking out to sea with the whole harbour in the background. It was such an intimate special moment, of course I said yes and we both cried! The heavens then opened so we had to dash to the nearest bar to take cover and toast our news! We were having so much fun we nearly missed the last bus back to our hotel in Sorrento!

Setting

We were originally due to marry on the 30th of May 2020, a day that will always hold a special place in our hearts now. We had wanted to get married as soon as we could whilst still leaving enough time to plan things, so we aimed for a date around a year from when we got engaged.

However, 2020 didn’t turn out to be the year we expected and so we had to adapt according to the changing rules that the global pandemic brought. It was quite the rollercoaster wedding planning experience, full of twists and turns and bumps in the road but all our suppliers worked with us and were all incredibly flexible and supportive. We were very lucky to be able to postpone our wedding, which thankfully went ahead on the 14th of October 2020. Funnily enough, we seem to be drawn to October – both our parents were married in October, we were both born in October and we actually first met in October – so maybe there were greater forces at work after all!

We married at Thicket Priory in York, and the ceremony was by Selby Registrars. From the day that we first viewed the venue, we knew we had found somewhere special and we fell in love with all the magical little details and fascinating history that seemed to ooze from every room and passageway. We couldn’t imagine a better place to become Mr and Mrs, and we knew our guests would love it too. The wonderful team welcomed us so warmly, taking the time to get to know us and the kind of wedding we wanted to create. We wanted our guests to feel relaxed but also to be able to enjoy a little luxury, in a place we could be ourselves and be transported at the same time. We got that and a whole lot more with our choice of venue. Each of the rooms are so unique and the whole place has been lovingly restored to an incredible standard.

Due to the pandemic situation, we unfortunately were not able to have all our friends and family join us and had to make very difficult decisions as to who would be there on the day – the original guest list was about 100, which we then had to reduce to 30 and then again to 15. Everyone was really understanding and supportive, it wasn’t what we had wanted but we just had to roll with it. We shared our special day via Zoom and had friends and family join us that way instead and we do hope to have a bigger party to celebrate in the future.

Theme

We wanted the overall look and feel of the day to be classic and elegant. Lots of fresh greenery and my favourite white flowers were added, and we also used sheet music to add little extra details. We both love music and we thought this was a nice way to incorporate this. We used sheet music to make paper cones filled with gypsophila to adorn the aisle, added it to the table plan, used sheet music washi tape to decorate signs, and handmade decoupage decorations using sheet music too.

We had a simple colour palette of dark navy and light grey, with accents of silver and monochrome stationery and signage. We chose colours that felt elegant and fresh. We used ribbon to help bring the colours into the décor, but we wanted to keep things quite subtle and let the backdrop of our venue shine through. It really didn’t need much adding to it as it is such a stunning place!

If vintage art deco is your thing, then you’re going to love Amelia and Alex’s summer wedding at the charming Saltmarshe Hall, brimming in gorgeousness and dramatic touches inspired by this iconic era.

Let’s start with the chic colour palette of gold, navy blue and white, which the couple weaved into their various styling elements – everything from their bridesmaids’ elegant halter neck gowns to their flowers and stationery. And with cheeky signage encouraging a little bit of misbehaviour, together with martini glasses and ostrich feathers for their centrepieces, there’s plenty of 1920s glitz and glamour – and Champagne – to enthuse even the most ardent Gatsby lover.

Old fashioned games on the lawn and a photo with their bridal party beneath a tree by moonlight are just two of our favourite highlights from their big day, but we’ll let bride Amelia go into all the fabulous details!

Amelia says: For my birthday, I had asked Alex if we could go for a weekend away, perhaps on a city break somewhere abroad. A couple of days before my birthday, he surprised me with tickets to Paris for the weekend.

Excited to see as much of Paris as possible, I started booking various attractions and had planned to cover some distance across the city, only for Alex to then tear the ligaments in his ankle during a rugby match the day before we flew out! So I walked and Alex hobbled in his moon boot on a romantic weekend around Paris.

On my birthday eve, we got dressed up and went for dinner at a lovely restaurant called The Victoria, by the Arc de Triomphe. We stopped at the Arc for a few sunset pictures and that was when he popped the question – and I said yes. I should have suspected it really, because he had taken the trouble to take the boot off and put a suit on for dinner!

Setting

Saltmarshe Hall was the first venue we visited and it had everything we were looking for. We could spend the whole day in one place and there were enough rooms for all our close friends and family. The age and character of the building fitted with our art deco theme, and the grounds are beautiful too. The wedding coordinators were also very welcoming.

We tied the knot there on 6 July 2019. When we visited the Brides Up North Wedding Show at Saltmarshe Hall in October 2018, we asked about cancellations for 2019 and they confirmed they had 6 July available.

Theme

Our theme started out as The Great Gatsby (1920s), however, as time went on we were concerned about it becoming a fancy dress party. In the end, it became more of a subtle art deco theme.

We designed some signs in The Great Gatsby style, written in gold on glossy navy card which we put up around the venue, including “save water, drink champagne” and “let’s misbehave”. We also had our table names – various monuments in Paris – printed on similar card.

Our colours were white, navy blue and gold. We had tall martini glass style vases filled with white flowers, white ostrich feathers and pearls as the centrepieces. The bridesmaid dresses and suits were navy blue, and the backs of the chairs were dressed with white and pearl brooches. Our stationery was also navy blue adorned with gold art deco style writing, and the favours were presented in little gold bags.

Newlyweds Cheri and Simon fell in love with their venue, Charlton Hall, straightaway and didn’t even need to view anywhere else, as they knew this 18th century stately home would make the perfect backdrop to their spectacular day.

Tying the knot a year after their engagement, the couple took inspiration from their quirky surroundings and stylish attire to craft a stunning black-tie themed wedding. The details are exquisite – think ivory and soft nude hues complemented by gyp and pampas grass, and a glorious three-tiered cake decorated in ruffles. And with dishes such as oysters and Baileys parfait with truffles – their wedding breakfast sounds utterly delightful, too.

Come night-time, the couple’s homage to their favourite destination, Ibiza, took centre stage with not one but two DJs, plus a saxophone player, creating the perfect Ibizan sunset ambience for their guests in the heart of Northumberland. A truly unforgettable day, from start to finish.

Here’s Cheri to delve into their day some more and share all their special moments.

Cheri says: Simon had taken me out to my favourite restaurant in Newcastle, The Patricia, for Sunday lunch. Afterward, we arrived home to a very romantic proposal of Simon on one knee whilst I was taking my shoes off in the entrance hall. It completely shocked me!

Setting

Our wedding took place on 22 February, 2020. We thought it would be nice to get married in February 2020, a year after our engagement, plus the date also contains my lucky numbers!

After walking into Charlton Hall in Northumberland, we knew it would be the perfect setting for a winter wedding, and it was the only venue we visited. We fell in love with it.

We have both been to many beautiful weddings and wanted to find somewhere different, so researched many venues around the local area and in other countries, too. Charlton Hall had been recently refurbished and was beautifully decorated – we felt that it had a great atmosphere and would be a fun place for a party. The views across the landscape were also stunning. It was the perfect place for us!

Theme

The theme centred around my wedding gown, which was called ‘Mayfair’ by Halfpenny London. A black-tie themed winter wedding felt appropriate with the setting, dress and party atmosphere we were looking to have. We also wanted our flowers to reflect an English country garden.

Nicola and her beau Steven were blown away by the gorgeously rustic Doxford Barns  from the moment they drove down the driveway and, if you’re planning a barn wedding, we think you’re going to love their gin themed, wintery day.

Yes, we did say gin themed! It’s very subtly done but our couple are known for their love of gin and had to incorporate that into their day where possible! Right from that personal beach picnic proposal, Nicola and Steven have done things in their own way and with their own sense of style, and we love it!

They fell in love with their venue – an UNVEILED Network Member of course – instantly, cemented by the fact that they even got their dog, Daisy, from Doxford Barns – and it’s not hard to see why they were head over heels for this uber romantic, rustic, exclusive farm space. With a venue this lovely, the bride and groom knew that they wanted to accentuate the natural charm, rather than over-style and cover up with a bold OTT theme of any kind, opting instead for elements that could’ve grown in situ.

All this with a palette of rich burgundy, deep navy and bottle green means this winter warmer of a celebration is all the seasonal inspo you’ve been looking for!

Nicola says: It was on Tynemouth Beach, 6th May 2018. It was a sunny bank holiday Sunday and we went for a day out in Tynemouth. It is a special place for us as it’s somewhere we went on some of our first dates together. We had a lovely picnic, then Steven put on our song (which was later also our first dance song). He brought out a ring box that he’d been carrying around all day. As we laid on our picnic rug listening to our song, he asked me to marry him and then we toasted our engagement just as the sun started to set, with a bottle of Champagne he had sneakily been carrying around all day with him too. It was perfect and very us.

Setting

We were married on 9th November 2019. We had originally been looking for a summer wedding but it became clear that we would have to wait another year for a summer date. Fortunately we changed our minds as we would have been getting married this summer with COVID going on!

When we arrived at Doxford Barns, we knew it was the place for us so we took the first available weekend date they had. We both had a good idea of what type of venue we were after but didn’t really know what that was (or if it even existed) until we arrived at Doxford. It just felt right from the first moment we drove down the long driveway to the farm and the minute I stepped into the Threshing Hall I knew it was the place. It was rustic but still with the right amount of finishing touches that meant it had that classic wedding feel. I still get emotional every time we drive down that driveway.

Not only is the place truly breathtaking but we loved the idea of having the venue to ourselves for the full weekend and being able to have our closest family and friends stay on site for the weekend too. Having everyone together for dinner and drinks the night before the wedding and breakfast the day after added an extra special touch and made us feel like the celebrations lasted that little bit longer.

We knew it was truly meant to be when a few weeks later we got our puppy from Doxford too! The farm dog had puppies the first night we went to view the venue and we were lucky enough to get our little Daisy.

With it being a winter wedding, we chose dark colours that complemented each other whilst being contrasting enough to not all blend into one, going for bottle green, navy and burgundy. We didn’t have a theme, more of an idea that ran throughout. Because we were having a barn wedding we wanted to keep things more rustic and wild so the arrangements for the flowers were all very overgrown and wild. The idea was to complement the natural beauty of the barn in its simplicity whilst still having the feel of a wedding venue.

The wild and overgrown idea was carried through to the table centrepieces, where each was covered in moss, with flowers and foliage growing up the gin bottles. We wanted it all to look like it was meant to be there rather than placed to look good. We are known as a couple who love their gin, it was what we spent most of our first date talking about, so it felt only right to incorporate that into the day.

The tables had coordinates rather than place names, representing key moments in our relationship so far. This was carried through into the wedding gifts, with the best men receiving personalised cufflinks representing where they and Steven had met, the mums’ were given personalised handkerchiefs with our place of birth and Steven had cufflinks with where we got engaged and married.

This is the one where Emily and Sam tie the knot on a sweet summer’s day in Willerby with a pretty and muted pink palette. Total wedding perfection.

Elegant, light and beautifully floral – exactly what one would expect when the Mother of the Bride is a florist. Emily had not one, not two, but a whole team of pro florists working on the styling for her big day. With an abundance of quintessentially English flowers and foliage adding a certain romance and charm to this already picture perfect day, and a little sausage pooch in a bow for added cuteness! We always love when there’s a furry friend playing a part in the big event.

Adding to the al fresco summer feel, we’ve got the details of a BBQ feast, which is basically de rigueur for any Great British outdoor party, and an adorable little bar in a retro caravan to keep everyone suitably hydrated. Equal parts quirky and kitsch, this is one bar we wouldn’t mind being seen propping up. Let’s speak to Emily, forget we’ve ever heard of Covid and party like it’s July 2019!

Proposal

Emily says: Sam proposed to me in Venice on 28th March 2018. We had spent the day in Burano and then headed out to the Hilton Hotel Sky Lounge for a few drinks, which is on an island just 15 minutes away on a water taxi. On the walk back Sam got down on one knee with the stunning backdrop of the lights of Venice. I cried with tears of happiness and said yes. It was perfect. We then celebrated at a hidden jazz bar with lots of prosecco!

Setting

We got married on the 6th of July 2019. We knew we wanted a Saturday summer wedding as we wanted an indoor/outdoor feel. We got married at The Barn at Willerby. We had looked at a few venues across Hull and East Yorkshire. The Barn was our last stop, it wasn’t finished yet but after looking around we knew that’s where we wanted to get married. It has floor to ceiling bifolding doors so we could have the indoor/outdoor feel, which was what we wanted for our summer wedding. They also didn’t restrict us to certain suppliers either like other venues had, so we were able to choose who we wanted for our day.

Theme

We knew we wanted a classic and delicate wedding with a romantic modern style. My mum is a florist so I have grown up to love beautiful flowers. Pretty, elegant and British-grown flowers were a big part of our wedding, with a palette of mauve, blush, dusty rose and ivory with gold accents.

Today’s featured real wedding couple demonstrate how clean lines, minimal fuss and fanfare, and a small guestlist can be just the thing for an intimate ceremony. Especially if it’s followed by a lavish party for 100 in Provence!

Choosing to have their big wedding celebration set in the belle countryside of the South of France means that Anna and Simon have something to look forward to next year, but they didn’t want to let a little thing like a global pandemic prevent them from getting officially hitched in front of their very closest family and friends in 2020 as planned.

Anna has really pulled off minimal style with an unrivalled class. Opting for neutral but effective venue decor and white and pale pink florals, she looks completely stunning in her floor length, off the shoulder Rouland Mouret gown and champagne Jimmy Choos with almost show-stealing earrings, while groom, Simon, certainly hasn’t let the team down. Dapper in a custom navy Herringbone wool suit, he looks every bit the proud husband as he stands by his new wife’s side in front of a mere handful of their nearest and dearest. Nous sommes enchantés.

Proposal

Simon says: We got engaged in Oia, Santorini in June 2018. We have a tradition of taking each other away somewhere for our birthdays and Anna’s birthday falls in June. I found flights and some fantastic accommodation, suites built into caves in the cliff face where breakfast was served on the terrace outside your suite. The plan was hatched; I’d pop the question over a birthday breakfast with a fantastic backdrop of the Aegean Sea and the blue domes of Santorini.

I hadn’t really thought it through in practicality though, this was quite a bit extra compared to other birthday getaways and things like smuggling an engagement ring through airport security was tricky! When we arrived at the hotel I was convinced Anna would work it out, I tried to excuse the elaborate get away with a story about receiving a small bonus from work and had found the hotel on a holiday deal site, she told me afterwards she didn’t have a clue! So all was set for the engagement, I’d organised champagne and a birthday cake to accompany our terrace breakfast, but we ended up drinking a little too much the night before and neither of us could face the champagne, and the wind was so strong breakfast had to be served inside our room, but I’d come too far at that point. I don’t remember much about how I asked, but I must have done an okay job as Anna said yes as she started to cry (happy tears she tells me!). At that point we found a second wind and the champagne was opened.

Anna says: When we got there I thought it must have been some deal on Groupon! Little did I know! Simon is so laid back that I had no idea he had planned to do this. The setting was fabulous, Santorini is the most beautiful place and Atrina Canava 1894 is a beautiful cave hotel with stunning views.

Setting

We were married on 20th August 2020. We liked the 20.08.20 date because of its symmetry. Our wedding celebration was scheduled to take place at The Château Provence on St Maximin in the South of France on the August bank holiday but this has now been postponed until August 2021.

We chose to have our legal nuptials in Manchester, at King Street Townhouse, as that is where we lived at the time and we wanted to do this before our official celebration.

This was an intimate ceremony with our closest family and friends with a meal afterwards, a contrast to the 100 guest celebration in Provence!

We wanted to capture the city as part of our wedding and the Townhouse has a great vantage point on the 8th Floor terrace. The Hub has beautiful dark wood parquet flooring and mint green wood panelled walls, it was romantic and chic. We wanted this part of our celebration of our marriage to be a contrast to the second part in Provence which will be full of light with views of the scenic French countryside.

Theme

We wanted a mix of boho, alternative chic for our wedding, a sort of understated cool glamour which we felt the venue offered immediately. We kept our outfits paired back and chic, almost like evening wear and the flowers were a mixture of textures to soften and give unstructured feel.

We wanted softer and neutral tones and kept to colours of white, nude, blush pink and green. The groom wore navy blue. We picked these colours because they fit in well with our venue and reflected our colour tones, these also incorporated some of my favourite flowers.
