the proposal
We got engaged in January in Venice. Joe surprised me with the trip for Christmas. I had no idea that he was planning to propose. He got down on one knee outside our hotel in a beautiful square called Santa Maria Formosa. We spent the rest of the weekend celebrating in the city.
the venue
Our wedding was at The Fig House, which is part of the Middleton Lodge Estate in North Yorkshire. It is such a beautiful place and the décor is just to our taste. We were absolutely blown away by Middleton Lodge from our first visit and nothing else matched up.
Everything about the estate is breath-taking – the grounds, bedrooms, food and atmosphere. The staff are also amazing, we couldn’t praise our Wedding Coordinator, Rhiannon Grantham, highly enough. She was there whenever we needed her on the day and on the run up to the wedding.
We would rate our venue a massive ten out of ten and would absolutely recommend the venue to another couple. If you want a place to wow your guests, then I can confidently say that Middleton Lodge will not disappoint.
the photographer
I was searching for a fine art photographer when I came across Holly of Belle and Beau, and was instantly captured by her beautiful work. I was mesmerised by her use of colour and light and we both Ioved the beautiful, delicate and romantic style of her images.
Holly was brilliant and one of our favourite parts of the day was being taken off as a couple to be photographed as the sun was setting. It gave us a chance to reflect on the wedding and enjoy our time together.
We love our images and are so happy that we can relive each moment through them and treasure the memories forever.
the details
I envisioned our wedding to be elegant and soft in a clean, crisp, white style. We took a minimalist approach using neutral tones and décor, flowers and details that would blend naturally and work in harmony with The Fig House’s own rustic style.
We mainly used foliage to decorate the venue, including an arch for our ceremony, a hanging hoop in the main room, a long garland along the top table and centrepieces of tall glass vases filled with foliage and surrounded by tall pillar candles. Each place setting was finished with an Olive sprig, clipped from our tree at home.
To make things more personal, we had a few handmade details. I created all the stationery myself using a simplistic and elegant design; my bridesmaid made our wedding boards and two friends made the guest book board, table plan and the beehive card holder. We also had little handmade candles as our favours.
the dress
My dress is an Allure Bridals design that I purchased from Bride by Swarbricks – I saw it as soon as I walked in. The design looked so unique with a beautiful vine pattern in sections of the skirt, oyster coloured underskirt, jewel-encrusted floral-patterned bodice and silk buttons down the back. I accessorised it with a jewel detailed veil and sparkly Badgley Mischka shoes.
the special touches
We decided to do our first dance, which was to The Script’s Never Seen Anything Quite Like You Before, outside on the terrace, and I’m so glad we did – it was truly memorable. The sun was just setting, and everyone stood around us in a circle holding sparklers. It was amazing!
