the proposal
There were several almost-attempts at the proposal by Graham during a holiday of a lifetime to California, but each one didn’t quite go to plan, and so he ended up keeping hold of the ring and proposing on a quiet weekend away in Madrid around two months later!
the venue
Our wedding took place at Broughton Hall, which has a gorgeous Catholic chapel on-site and three venue options. We fell in love with the house itself and so rented it out for two days and had a marquee in its beautiful gardens.
The house is so grand and so quintessentially English, and the grounds are stunning. It was perfect for what we needed – there was plenty of on and off-site accommodation for all of our family and one of the best bits was the giant 30-strong sleepover the night before the wedding.
You can’t buy the experiences this place can provide. The entire energy and vibe around the house, both when filled or when alone in a room, was warm and homely, and the food and staff were amazing throughout.
the photographer
Jane Beadnell photographed our day. I’d followed Jane on Instagram for ages and knew that her fine-art and beautiful artistic style would do the amazing venue, flowers, and guests justice on the day.
Jane provided an amazing service throughout, she is such a supportive and positive person! Her whole vibe was calming, which is what I needed, and her unobtrusive approach meant that I barely noticed her throughout the day.
We love our images, so much so that we bought not one, but two albums! Jane’s images captured the love and happiness perfectly. We would highly recommend her to others.
the details
We based the wedding on a colour scheme of soft pastel pinks, whites, luscious greens and hints of gold. I love flowers and wanted to complement the venue’s beautiful and elegant surroundings by bringing the outdoors, in.
My and the bridesmaids’ bouquets were made up of Peonies, Roses and lush green foliage while the flower girls had the best little flower crowns. We then had a stunning floral hanging installation from the central apex of the marquee and a floral arch at the chapel entrance.
Our cake was also out of this world. The bottom tier was a pink, gold and white marble effect, with the remaining three tiers in white. It was finished with a cascade of edible Peonies and Roses.
the dress
I knew I wanted a simple but classic dress, nothing too sparkly or blingy as it wouldn’t suit the venue – or me as a person!
My White Rose dress was entirely customisable and made-to-measure. I lowered the back and added pearl detailing and a metre to the train. Nobody in the world has the same dress as me, which is such a nice feeling.
the special touches
For the ‘lull’ between the meal and the band, when we were having sunset photos, we hired Dan Dan the Magic Man – a 16-year-old magician who has been on the TV show Little Big Shots. Minds were blown that night, grown adults were scratching their heads in bewilderment and amazement! He did an excellent job of bringing people together who wouldn’t necessarily have known or spoken to each other – I would really recommend his act for an icebreaker!
