FRENCH CONNECTION FOR A DESERT WEDDING IN LAS VEGAS – LUCY & ANDY

Julia Braime

Lucy & Andy chased the sun for their chic & intimate desert wedding in Las Vegas, Nevada, as featured in Issue 12 of UNVEILED Magazine.

With images by Gaby J Photography.

the proposal

Andy proposed in the Sky Garden at the top of the Walkie Talkie building in London over a Champagne breakfast. It was very intimate and personal and in Andy’s classic, smooth style. We then went to Print Club London for a screen print workshop, where Andy created a print saying: “She said yes!”

the venue

Our ceremony was in a dry lake bed in the Nevada desert, about a 30-minute drive from the Las Vegas strip. We knew we wanted something a little alternative and different from the traditional wedding chapels and managed to find Victoria, our wedding officiant, from Flora Pop.

Victoria has a teardrop trailer that she can take just about anywhere, but when she suggested the lake bed we were sold.

We didn’t have a traditional wedding reception, but did have cocktails, a lovely dinner and then back to the hotel casino. I was playing blackjack in my wedding dress at 2am and it is a moment I’ll never forget!

the photographer

Our Photographer was Gaby J, who specialises in Vegas elopements. We knew we wanted something very relaxed in terms of imagery, and just loved Gaby’s style, vibe and use of colour.

As there were only going to be six of us on the day, we wanted a photographer who would feel like one of the wedding party. If we didn’t feel like we could go for a beer with them, it wouldn’t have worked. Gaby was awesome on the day! It felt like we’d known her forever even though it was the first time we’d met in person. She was relaxed and fun, and really understood that we didn’t want to pose too much. She took us to In-N-Out for a burger and fries before we drove out to the desert in convoy!

As expected, Gaby nailed it. It’s so nice reliving the magic of the day and all the small touches you forget about through her images.

the details

We appreciate an elopement is not for everyone, but for us was perfect. Victoria was key to it all, and it was amazing to have a wedding planner who would also be our officiant. It made the whole thing feel much more personal.

The ceremony was the most memorable part. Our friends, Rich and Ness, read us a poem they had written for us which was a lovely personal touch, and following our vows we celebrated with Champagne and donuts! We were blessed with the most incredible light as we got married at sunset.

Classic cars were something we really wanted to be a feature of the day as Andy loves cars, and so we hired a red 1965 Mustang, and a white 1971 Cadillac.

the dress

My dress was from French Connection in Brighton and we picked it together when we were there shopping for my engagement ring. I tried it on, saw his face and knew that it was my dress. I wanted something that would be cool given the Las Vegas heat, and also comfortable. I accessorised with silver trainers from Dune and it was the best decision!

the special touches

Sadly, both of my parents have passed away, and so our wedding day was always going to be an emotional one. This led us to our choice of an intimate ceremony. My brother gave me away and it was one of the happiest moments of my life.

We are now planning a big wedding celebration back in the UK with our extended family and friends. Bring on the party!
