Thomas & Georgia’s spring wedding at dreamy Teesdale venue Lartington Hall was shot by Melissa Beattie and featured in Issue 10 of UNVEILED.
the proposal
At Christmas time on our first official date we broke down by the side of the road. It was snowing and had to wait to get rescued. Fast forward to Christmas Day 2016, and we were on the same road when the car ‘broke down’. Tom said he would go out and check the wheel but instead opened my door and got down on one knee. Of course, the car was fine, and we travelled to visit all our family to share the news.
the venue
Lartington Hall was the first venue we viewed as an engaged couple and the one we picked for our big day.
The Hall oozes elegance and class whilst maintaining a cosy, friendly vibe. The building is breath-taking with beautiful decor – you can tell each cushion, candlestick and vase has been considered before it was set down.
For us, Lartington Hall was a ten-out-of-ten venue. John and Shona took care of us all day with amazing attention to detail. They were totally professional throughout and made sure everything ran smoothly.
the photographer
Melissa Beattie captured our day – her photography to us is unparalleled. We love the soft, natural look of her work and are drawn to the colours and compositions.
Melissa’s tagline is ‘capturing the art of love’ and that really shows through her work. On a wedding day there’s such a warm feeling of closeness that you wish you could bottle up and keep – through her images, Melissa does just that.
We could not rate her higher – she was our dream photographer and she delivered our dream photographs!
the details
We chose soft blues, greys and navy for the colour scheme to complement my dress and Tom’s choice of suit.
The décor was selected to go with the look of the venue. We had Peonies everywhere – as they are my favourite – and also Ivy on the top table. We used pallets covered with flowers for the welcome sign and seating plan, and had a table of pictures displaying photos of brides in my family.
Tom came up with the design for our cake, which was navy and Wedgewood blue with a marble effect layer and decorated with more Peonies.
the dress
I wore a bespoke gown by Emma Beaumont. I wanted a floaty, romantic dress which reflected me, and I knew that there was no way I could get this ‘off the rack’. I chose a dress with a sheer, long-sleeved top with handsewn details in lace. The skirt was very long, floaty and was white tulle over a silver grey. It was finished with a small beaded belt.
the special touches
Getting my dress designed and made was an amazing experience. I knew Emma beforehand and had followed her Instagram, knowing she would be the one that could create my dream dress – and she did! I explained what I liked, selected a lace and she sketched the dress in about 30 seconds. It was perfect literally from the first sketch. I trusted her completely. I had a few fittings and loved seeing my dress take shape from the drawing.
