LACE & ROSES FOR A GLAMOROUS WEDDING AT THE HIGHFIELD HOUSE

Julia Braime

As the first ever couple to wed at sensational new venue The Highfield House, Jemma & Paul chose a backdrop of candlelit romance and floating roses for their elegant autumn celebration.

Jemma & Paul’s wedding day was featured in Issue 09 of UNVEILED.

the proposal

We got engaged in November 2016, while on holiday in Sensatori, Tenerife. Paul booked the trip as a birthday present and then proposed as a surprise on the first night.

the venue

The Highfield House in Driffield, East Yorkshire, provided the fabulous setting for our day. It was the first venue we looked at and we both instantly loved it. From the beautiful bespoke wallpaper, dramatic colours and eclectic style, to the grand open fireplaces and beautiful grounds, we knew it was the one.

The House had only just launched as a wedding venue, which meant we would be the first people to get married there, making the experience all the more special.

We loved the ceremony room with its grand lighting upstairs, and the elegant room for the wedding breakfast downstairs – not forgetting the amazing bridal apartment that feels like five-star boutique hotel.

Highfield’s manager, Ellen, was a pleasure to deal with throughout, sharing our desire for everything to run smoothly, and going above and beyond to get things right. Along with her assistance, we planned our wedding in just 12 weeks. Although a bit longer would have been nice, our wedding shows that a strict timescale can still result in an amazing big day.

the photographer

Our photographers, Richard and Christine of Kazooieloki Photography, were amazing; so professional yet friendly and we barely noticed they were there on the day.

The photos speak for themselves – beyond words! We could not be happier with them. Kazooieloki have a great eye for catching all the details, which I loved. The photos really are a story of the day and looking back on them is like reliving the wedding. We’ve had lots of people tell us they are the best wedding photos they have ever seen!

the details

We picked an elegant and glamorous theme, which we felt really suited the venue: lots of glassware, candles, ivory roses and greenery with accents of gold.

Our florist dressed the stairs and house throughout, which looked incredible, teaming flowers and foliage with candles in various forms. We had submerged roses with floating candles as the centrepieces and single stem roses with other candles and gold crystals as further décor.

the dress

My dress was a fitted, lace fishtail design with lace straps. Planning a wedding in such a short time frame meant I didn’t have chance to try lots of different dresses but I knew that this was ‘the one’ when I put it on.

the special touches

As part of our favours I wrote an individual message to each of our day guests. I wanted to do this to add a more personal element to the day and so many of our friends and family commented on what a lovely touch it was.
